Tuition and Fees
For the Master of Arts in Counseling program for the 2016-2017 academic year, the tuition rate will be $1,340 per credit hour, for a total tuition of $80,400 (60 x $1,340) using the 2016-2017 rate. Tuition increases are typically between 3% and 6%. Tuition for the upcoming semester is due August 1, December 1, May 1.
Tuition Payment Options
Wake Forest University provides students online access to their financial accounts viz the Deacon Electronic Account Center (DEAC). This system permits students and authorized payers to view account activity in real time, 24/7. Students are also able to pay tuition and fees via e-check through an Authorized Clearinghouse (ACH) in DEAC. DEAC accounts are automatically set up for all new incoming students. DEAC may be accessed from http://finance.wfu.edu/sfs/deac or once logged into WIN https://win.wfu.edu/.
Payment Plan Option
An interest-free, monthly payment plan is available through FACTS Tuition Management (Nelnet). Payment methods that are accepted through the plan are electronic funds transfer (eCheck) from a checking or savings account or debit/credit card (Mastercard, Discover and American Express Only). A convenience fee of 2.7% per transaction is charged for credit/debit card payments. A nonrefundable $85 enrollment fee per semester is charged to participate in the plan. The enrollment fee is a separate transaction from the first scheduled payment. If the enrollment fee returns, the monthly plan agreement will automatically terminate. The enrollment periods for the payment plan option are: Spring = November 1-January 7 Summer = March 1- May 7 Fall = July- September 7
Third-Party Payment Plans
Wake Forest University permits students to set up DEAC accounts for authorized users. Authorized users can make online payments on behalf of the respective student. To set up an authorized user account, the students must begin the process online at: http://finance.wfu.edu/sfs/payment-methods/third-party-billing.
Students are financially responsible for making payment to the University. Failure to receive a statement does not warrant exemption from the payment of tuition and fees or from penalties and restirctions. Failure to pay balances due on a student’s account may result in a financial hold or dismissal from the program. This hold will prevent registration and processing of official transcripts. This hold does not prevent transmission of grades.
Financial Aid Process
Students enrolled in the online Master of Arts in Counseling program may be eligible for federal financial aid provided they are enrolled at least half time (4.5 credit hours for graduate students) in a degree seeking program. Students who are unclassified, non-degree seeking students or enrolled less than half-time are ineligible for federal aid. To receive any federal loan, a student must be accepted or enrolled in a degree or certificate program. Admittance to a graduate program as a “Special Student” does not meet the admission criteria to qualify for federal financial aid.
To be considered for federal financial aid, a student must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSAs are available online at: http://fafsa.ed.gov/. A student may submit a FAFSA at any time during the academic year.
Financial aid awards are assessed for the academic year. Wake Forest determines an academic year to consist of a fall, spring, and summer semester. If a student is admitted into the program beginning in the fall semester, his or her award will consist of a fall/spring/summer award package. If the student is admitted in the spring semester, the award will consist of a spring/summer award. Summer admits will receive a summer semester award and will need to complete a new FAFSA to be considered for aid for the upcoming fall/spring/summer academic year. A FAFSA must be submitted each academic year to determine federal aid eligibility. Wake Forest’s Federal Title IV school code is E00429.
Students do not need to be admitted to the University to submit the FAFSA, but financial aid eligibility will not be assessed until the student has been officially accepted by the Wake Forest Department of Counseling and registered for classes. The standard time for the Department of Education to process and release a FAFSA to a college or university is 5-10 business days.

Students can transfer up to six total credits, subject to approval by department faculty. Evaluations are completed upon acceptance into the program. Additionally, students must submit a syllabus for the course(s) they want to transfer in. Official transcripts are required prior to registration. Please be aware that taking fewer than 4.5 hours in a semester (which is what happens when you receive transfer credit for one of the scheduled courses) may lower your eligibility for financial aid.

Wake Forest University graduate admission is based on a number of criteria including college grade-point average, Graduate Record Examination scores, recommendations, professional commitment, work or volunteer experience in the human services field and suitability for the profession. Applicants being considered for admission are required to have a recorded personal interview with the Enrollment Advisor, who will submit the recording to program faculty. Candidates for the counseling programs are not required to have a specific undergraduate major or minor. Continuance in the program and admission to candidacy are based on success in academic courses and on personal, ethical, and performance considerations.
To be eligible for this program, students must meet the following qualifications.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- GPA > 2.5
- GRE > 300 on new exam; writing > 3* (Wake Forest requirement)
- Three (3) letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Application fee of $75
*Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Services Applicants may request a GRE waiver from the requirement of the Graduate School upon demonstration of an advanced degree from an accredited university.

Important Credentialing Information
Due to higher education regulation changes effective July 1, 2011, Wake Forest University is currently not enrolling students in the following states: AL, KY, WI, PR, NM, MN, and MA. In many locations, authorization is pending and students may likely be able to enroll in Wake Forest’s online degree programs. Please call our office to determine this status of the state you are residing in. Each state’s counseling licensure board determines the licensing requirements for candidates seeking license as a counseling professional (some states have titles other than LPC). If you wish to enroll in one of our online offerings and are located in MO or IL, please note that no purely online degree, including that offered by Wake Forest, is sufficient for licensure as a counseling professional in those states. However, this limitation regarding online courses does not apply to either the school counseling program within the Master of Arts in Counseling program or the Master of Arts in Human Services.
Wake Forest University Technology Requirements
Students enrolling in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences online programs at Wake Forest University should be comfortable with technology. You should be familiar with PC technology, sending and receiving e-mail, navigating the Internet and know how to use Word, PowerPoint and Excel. During the Student Orientation Course, you will learn how to engage in online learning. The Wake Forest Online Counseling Program uses Sakai as the platform for delivering online courses. This platform is also used by instructors to supplement their in-class courses. Sakai is a web-based application capable of supporting teaching and learning, project collaboration, and group interaction. The following are the minimum technical requirements for using Sakai:

- Hardware: Windows or Mac with at least 512MB of RAM
- High Speed Internet Connection: Internet Service Provider

Students will need a web-cam for skills courses, which will require video interview assignments. Students may find an external microphone and headphones helpful as well. Some applications may require that the following programs are installed on your computer system:
- Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, or Adobe Shockwave Player
- Quicktime Programs within Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 are used in most online courses to complete assignments.
- All written documents must be submitted in Word 2007 or 2010 format.
- All spreadsheet files much be submitted in Excel 2008 or 2010 format.
- All slide presentations must be submitted in PowerPoint 2007 or 2010 format.
